How to Join MotorGrid as a Car Dealership

Independent dealerships in South Africa are paying too much to list vehicles online and getting too little in return. MotorGrid is built for second-hand dealers who want better visibility, simpler tools, and pricing that doesn't punish small stock volumes. Here's everything you need to know about joining.

How do I register my dealership on MotorGrid?

Go to the Join as a Dealership page and complete the registration form. You'll enter your dealership trading name, your full name, a contact number, your email address, and your physical address. Once you submit, our sales team receives your application and contacts you directly — usually within one business day.

The form takes about two minutes. There's no upfront payment required and no commitment at registration stage.

What information do I need to register?

You'll need four things: your dealership's trading name, your personal contact details (name, number, and email), and your physical business address. The address is used to build your public dealership profile on MotorGrid, which helps buyers and Google associate your listings with your location.

If you're registering on behalf of someone else, make sure you have the dealership owner's contact details on hand — our team will want to speak directly with the decision-maker during verification.

What happens after I submit the registration form?

A member of our sales team contacts you by call or email to confirm your details and run a quick verification check. This usually happens within one business day of submitting.

Verification is a short conversation, not a formal audit. We confirm that your dealership is legitimate and operating in South Africa. Once that's done, we move straight into onboarding — setting up your profile, loading your inventory, and getting your first listings live.

How long does the verification process take?

One to two business days from the point we first make contact. The process is manual and conversational — no lengthy forms, no documentation packs. During our current Beta phase we keep onboarding as simple as possible so dealerships can get live without unnecessary delays.

If you haven't heard from us within two business days of submitting, check your spam folder or call us directly on 067 025 3045.

Do I need to upload my own vehicles?

Not during Beta. Once your dealership is verified, our team loads your vehicle inventory for you. You provide the vehicle details and photos, and we handle the rest. This hands-on approach during the early phase means your listings go live correctly formatted from day one.

After onboarding, you have full access to your dealership dashboard to add new stock, update prices, edit descriptions, and manage your listings independently. Most dealers find the dashboard straightforward to use without any training.

Is there a free plan for dealerships?

Yes. MotorGrid's entry-level plan is called Baby Wheels and it's permanently free — not a trial. It gives your dealership up to 3 active vehicle listings on the platform at no cost.

Dealerships joining during our Beta phase get a stronger deal: up to 15 active listings and 2 sponsored listing slots at no cost, plus a 10% lifetime discount applied to all paid plans once billing opens. Beta pricing is available to early joiners only and won't be offered once we exit Beta.

What type of dealership can join MotorGrid?

MotorGrid is built for independent second-hand car dealerships in South Africa. During our launch phase we're prioritising dealerships based in Gauteng, though we're onboarding dealers from other provinces too.

There's no minimum stock requirement. Whether you carry 5 vehicles or 500, the platform is built to scale with you. We're not onboarding franchise dealerships at this stage, but plan to open that up in a later phase.

If you run a small yard from a single location, you're exactly who MotorGrid is designed for.

How much does MotorGrid cost compared to Autotrader or Cars.co.za?

Cars.co.za charges over R2,000 per month for 5 listings. Autotrader prices for small independent dealers typically run R69 or more per listing with no volume discount — a 20-car inventory can easily cost R1,400 per month or more.

MotorGrid's paid plans start at R399 per month for 10 active listings. The free Baby Wheels plan gives you 3 listings at no cost. All pricing is published on our pricing page with no hidden fees or lock-in contracts.

For a dealership carrying 10 to 30 vehicles, the monthly saving over Cars.co.za alone typically covers the cost of a paid MotorGrid plan several times over.

Will my vehicle listings appear on Google?

Yes. MotorGrid uses server-side rendering for all public listing pages. Every vehicle you list gets its own indexed page containing the make, model, year, trim, price, location, and description. Google can read and index these pages on the first crawl without needing to execute JavaScript.

This matters because many older platforms rely on client-side rendering, which means Google receives a blank page and has to return later — if it does at all. With MotorGrid, your listings are indexable from day one.

As your stock grows, so does your presence in search results. A dealership with 20 vehicles has 20 indexed pages. Buyers searching for "2019 Ford Ranger double cab Pretoria" or "used Toyota Fortuner under R400,000 Johannesburg" can find specific vehicles in your inventory through Google directly.

Can MotorGrid post my vehicles to Facebook and Instagram?

Yes. From your dealership dashboard, select a post template, choose the vehicles you want to promote, and publish directly to your Facebook and Instagram pages through the Meta API. You stay in control of what goes out and when.

This is a feature no other South African dealer platform currently offers at this price point. Social posting from your stock management dashboard means you don't need a separate social media tool or an agency to run vehicle promotions. A new listing can be live on your social pages in under a minute.

Marketing add-on plans are available if you want scheduled posting, multiple templates, or higher post volumes.

What cities and provinces does MotorGrid cover?

MotorGrid operates nationally in South Africa. During our launch phase we're prioritising dealerships in Gauteng — Johannesburg, Pretoria, Ekurhuleni, and surrounding areas — because that's where search demand for used vehicles is highest.

Buyers across South Africa can browse all listings regardless of location. If your dealership is based outside Gauteng, you're still welcome to apply and we'll onboard you as capacity allows.
